My skin’s love affair with Aurelia

This review on one of my all-time favourite brands has been a long time coming.  In fact, even before I started this blog I really wanted to share my love for the products I use to anyone who would listen!  Which I did (occasional weird looks would follow after me gushing about it so much but hey!) and what better forum now than to share my thoughts with you on my blog.

I was first alerted to this British brand by my other all-time favourite webshop Alice&White (read review here) when they very kindly informed me of the arrival of some new brands to their store before they were even up.  Aurelia was one of the brands mentioned and I very quickly started to get acquainted with them; I was not to be disappointed by what I read and I couldn’t wait for them to show up on Alice&White.  Aurelia is an age preventive skincare line that fuses revolutionary probiotic technology with BioOrganic, botanical ingredients and essences.  Now, we all know that probiotics is good for us to ingest (think good bacteria in yoghurts and the like) but it was a first for me to hear that it’s also beneficial to put on our skin!  Powerful ingredients in this beautiful skincare line help to balance and reduce inflammation within the skin which is the main cause of aging.  Its use of its unique peptide complex also stimulates an increase of collagen production by 140% and a tenfold increase in natural levels of hyaluronic acid which means visible results in a short amount of time!  And we all like the sound of that, don’t we beauties =)  The founder of this lovely brand, Claire Vero, has an extensive background in pharmaceuticals from her years at GlaxoSmithKline so suffice to say that she knows and understands the skin’s needs as well as what exacerbates it.  For more information on the science behind it all visit their website here.  The entire range is free from a whole host of nasties such as synthetic fragrances, parabens, mineral oils, silicones, sulphates to name but a few from a long list of ingredients to avoid.
Now on to my review of the very first product I was lucky to try and that is the amazing Miracle Cleanser.  Just like my previous review where I did a lot of love-bombing, I will be doing a fair bit of that in this review as well because I just L.O.V.E this cleanser, LOVE it!  In case you’re still wondering about my feelings for it, let me repeat, I LOVE this cleanser!  I was very generously given the full size pot for Christmas by Alice&White along with some other purchased items and I can’t thank Lona enough for choosing this for me to try.  I had never used a cream cleanser before and was never a big fan of any product that required a muslin cloth to wipe it off with, but since I had read so much about this wonderful brand I thought I would put my hitherto prejudices aside and give it a proper go.  Well, I literally cannot live without this product now.  It is THAT good.  Packed with goodness like Baobab (omega rich “super fruit”), Hibiscus (rich in antioxidants and acts like nature’s Botox), Mongongo oil (with Vit E and fatty acids to help in restructuring and regenerating cells) and Kigelia africana (firming properties) what is not to like?  I currently use it as an evening cleanser as I feel it does an amazing job at getting rid of makeup, dirt and grime, and my skin feels so clean and smooth afterwards without that “pulled” sensation which some cleansers can leave you with. I use a small spatula to scoop out a small amount of product and distribute it evenly across my face.  I then proceed to gently massage the cream into my dry skin for a minute or two until I see little bits of grey clumps form.  Now I know that doesn’t sound too nice but I’m assuming it forms due to me massaging the cleanser in and I have to admit I quite like seeing it as that shows I’m really getting all the dirt and grime off.  No one has ever mentioned this in any review so I don’t know if I’m the only one to experience this!  Anyway, at this point I wet the accompanying antibacterial bamboo muslin cloth (another lovely product) in warm water and gently wipe the product off, rinsing the cloth each time after every wipe.  Here you can also see the grime and makeup being wiped away which is very satisfying!  Once this is done I am left with clear radiant skin ready for the next step in my evening cleansing routine.  Having used this since Christmas I have seen that my skin is more balanced and calm and less prone to reactions.  My skin is quite sensitive and will react to the smallest things but I feel that I haven’t had as many problems since using this.  I also have the impression that products applied afterwards sink in better, hopefully delivering nutrients where they should be going.
The texture of this cleanser is truly lovely and it’s a very easy product to work with.  The smell is just simply GORGEOUS.  Honestly, it’s like my nose died and went to some olfactory heaven.  It’s not too strong which I love and it has just the right amount of Eucalyptus (which has decongestant properties) and Rosemary (invigorating and uplifting) notes to calm and relax you as you perform your evening cleanse. Other essential oil blends include uplifting Bergamot and Chamomile which has anti-inflammatory properties.  I really love this part of the day where my skin gets reunited with its lover and there is sweet smelling harmony in my bathroom.  I’ve always loved cleansing my face after a long day out and about but the Miracle Cleanser takes it to another level.  I remember standing in front of the mirror on the wee hours of New Year’s Day at a friend’s house, ready to go to bed when I hear my mother’s voice inside my head saying “You ARE going to wash your face before you drift off, doesn’t matter how late it is or how tipsy you are!” and listening to that voice (thank you mum for drilling this into me since forever!) I did a Miracle cleanse and it’s as if I could hear my skin thanking me for doing so, both straight after and in the morning when I woke up later that same day (trust me, it was VERY tempting to go straight to bed with my makeup on, we’ve all been there!).  And I thanked myself too for being such a dutiful daughter 😉  That said, I’m not sure if I would have been as dutiful as quickly had it been a different cleanser.  This is what make this product stand out for me- I still want to cleanse my face and be calmed by the seducing scent at an ungodly hour!  Needless to say I will be repurchasing the Miracle Cleanser when I run out which won’t be for a while as a little goes a long way.  I really do recommend this cleanser, I believe everyone should have it in their cleansing routine and I love it so much that I’m even buying it as gifts for my girlfriends, hoping that they will fall in love with it too.  Price-wise it is a bit towards the higher end of the spectrum but seeing as it will last you a while I believe that it is justified.  Plus if you’re going to splurge on one skincare item I believe it should be on a good hard-working cleanser.  If you haven’t cleansed properly it doesn’t matter how good the ensuing serums or creams are- so invest in an effective cleanser!
And just when you thought this review was over, there is another product I must gush over!  Bear with me green beauties, I will do my best to keep it short (challenging when there are so many good things to say!).  After being so happy with the Miracle Cleanser I decided to buy their Cell Revitalise Night Moisturiser as I had just run out of a night cream.  It is always a risk buying full-sized products without testing them out first but I think I intuitively knew that my skin wasn’t going to complain so I went ahead anyway.  When my order from Alice&White arrived I immediately opened the lid as I had read from other green beauty bloggers how amazing the scent was.  Seriously, if someone could have taken a picture of my face when I opened the lid it would have been the best way to describe it because I was BLOWN away!!  My mouth was a big “O” and I actually started laughing because of how good it smelled.  Weird reaction perhaps.  Similar to Bodhi’s Rosemary Chi Himalayan Detox Salt Scrub (see review here), this product sent me to straight to memory lane and my holidays in the Far East and Hawaii…there was something instantly familiar with the scent that made me think back to certain happy holiday moments.  It’s a very special feeling when that happens and obviously it instantly endears me to the product.  I couldn’t wait for night to fall and to try it out after the Miracle Cleanser.  The whipped cream texture glides on so smoothly and really sinks into the skin all the while enveloping you in this cocoon of Neroli (all-time favourite scent), Lavender, Rose and Mandarin scents.  Like I said, OLFACTORY HEAVEN.  My skin feels very soft and hydrated afterwards and the feeling continues all the way into the next day when I wake up.  I am a fan for life and I’m sure that at one point or another I will be using their entire range.  Right now I’d have to go rob a bank to do so.  I was also sent a sample of their Cell Repair Night Oil from Alice&White which shares the same beautiful scent as the night moisturiser.  Double bonus in other words!  Two sample vials lasted me two weeks and I was very sad when I finished the last drop.  All the products work in such harmony and synergy with each other and leaves your skin happy, hydrated, baby soft and glowing.  I can’t recommend it enough.  Quick word about the packaging- both the cleanser and the night moisturizer come in dark glass pots lending a certain “heaviness” which to me conveys a luxurious and decadent feel.  The pots are very sturdy so I doubt they would break easily if dropped but I would still be careful of course.
To those of you who have stayed with me to this point, well done!  Lengthy reviews might become a trademark of mine but I do hope it helps those of you who are thinking about buying certain products to make the right choice for you and your skin depending on type and preference.  If you live in Sweden you can buy the beautiful and effective Aurelia range here.
