I’m a #GreenSurvivor!

Or technically Ru from Short, Small & Sweet was but it’s hard not to sing Destiny’s Child when it’s sooooooo fitting.  They were just missing the green part but we’ll forgive them.  This time.  So what is #GreenSurvivor I hear you ask?  Well, first of all “was” is more appropriate as it was a fun challenge that delightful Tammy of Rainbow Feet came up with at the beginning of the year.  The rules were as follows: No new beauty purchases until you finish up 2 makeup products, 3 skincare products and 5 body care products. (Still haven’t technically finished in that case!).  And if you succumbed to temptation (quite easy to do with so many baubles held in front of us!) or even necessity then you forfeited your claim to the prize that Tammy had put together.  Since I had just fallen prey to Pai’s generous Black Friday deal at the end of 2014 I knew there would be very little chance of me coming out top!  But, the idea behind the challenge, to use up x amount of products before purchasing something new is something that we all can and should strive for so I was game!  Below are the products that I have finished up since starting the challenge in January, each with a mini-review.

The Body Deli Living Hair Sprouted Mineral Greens Formula Shampoo – hair care is something that I tend to switch around after every finished shampoo bottle so after going through Rahua Voluminous Shampoo (review) I went for The Body Deli one.  I loved everything about this shampoo, from the scent which was very nostalgic and for some reason reminded me of holidays spent in Japan as a child (very fresh with peppermint notes), to the way it left my hair.  It always felt soft and conditioned (I don’t use conditioner at all…not sure if that’s good or bad but I don’t really feel that I need it) and my scalp was never felt itchy when using this.  The shampoo itself is green (love!) and doesn’t lather much at all which I now have gotten used to since switching to cleaner shampoos (plus it’s a nice sign that it doesn’t contain nasty SLS and other synthetic surfactants).  I would use four pumps of the product and massage each pump into four areas of my scalp, then leave it in while I washed my body.  I would definitely consider repurchasing this at some point since it was great for my hair and boasts a clean and green ingredients list.

Aurelia Probiotic Skincare Cell Revitalise Night Moisturiser – one of my absolute favourite brands, this night cream has the most heavenly scent ever with a very light whipped texture, not heavy at all.  I reviewed this almost a year ago so it’s actually lasted me that long believe it or not, however I must add that I stopped using night creams during the summer for obvious reasons and then I never got back to it…plus now I don’t use creams at night, only oils or serums.  The Green Derm has written a very interesting article concerning skin’s dependency on moisturisers which made me think twice about applying creams the whole time.  What you do with the information is up to you!  Should I return to using night creams, this one from Aurelia will be the one I get.  Why?  Because it leaves your skin super soft and calm as well as having aromatherapeutic effects due to its sublime scent.

May Lindstrom The Jasmine Garden – since Tammy has gotten me on to toners it’s been a very fickle affair indeed!  I’ve yet to buy the same toner twice as I want to find something that my skin really loves and where I can really feel the benefits…this one is very close to being purchased again which says a lot.  This got featured in one of my Nic’s Pic’n’Mix‘; it’s great for sensitive skins prone to reactions and it hydrates well.  Not to mention the intoxicating scent!  May’s products tend to be on the steeper side price-wise but I feel this one actually ends up being cheaper than many other toners since it comes in a 100ml bottle.  Most other ones are only 50ml.

Pai Lotus & Orange Blossom BioAffinity Skin Tonic (part of the Black Friday deal on Pai’s website) – after May, it’s hard to live up to the same expectations.  In my world and more importantly in my skin’s world, this one definitely fell short.  I got spoiled with the scent of the Jasmine Garden and instant relief from any reactions I got that it could never really surpass May’s creation.  Plus if you can afford Pai then you can certainly afford May Lindstrom with double the amount of product.  I’ll let you guess whether this will be a repurchase or not 😉

Yoshimomo Botanique Repair Anti-Inflammatory Active Facial Oil – this was my daily face oil for 3 months before it ran out a few weeks ago.  I really enjoyed this, or should I say my skin did, and described as a “soothing, vitamin-rich facial treatment…designed to deliver powerful healing agents to the skin”, it truly lived up to its description.  It is formulated with so-called dry oils which are non-greasy and is particularly good for those who don’t work well with heavier moisturisers.  On warmer days here (very rare!  Almost unheard of…) it was enough to apply the oil and forego a balm or cream.  I am a big fan of Yoshimomo Botanique, especially their Quench Moisturiser (review) and I am currently using the Rewind Facial Oil with vitamin C during the day which is showing very good results.
For some reason I can’t find the Repair Oil in the Yoshimomo Etsy shop so I will include the full INCI here:
Coryllus Avellana (Hazelnut) Oil, Caprylic Capric Triglycerides (Fractionated Coconut Oil), Squalene (Olive), ORG Argania Spinosa (Argan) Kernel Oil, Full Spectrum Tocopherol (Vitamin E) Oil, Ascorbyl Palmitate (Vitamin C) Ester, Calendula Officinalis CO2, Matricaria Recutita (Chamomile) CO2. 100% plant-based ingredients. Fragrance Free. Essential Oil Free. Naturally preserved with no parabens or formaldehyde donors.

The Earth Works Cosmetics Virgin Coconut & Lime Body Butter – delicious scrumptious lime icing anyone?  Because that is exactly what this little gem is!  The texture is that of butter, truly, and melts upon instant contact with the skin which makes for super easy and smooth application.  If you’re a fan of the scent, and who wouldn’t be, you’ll be happy to know that it lingers quite some time after you’ve applied it making you smell of zesty lime.  It also makes you want to go to the beach!  This was my first TEWC product and I would definitely get this body butter again.  The ingredients are stellar with such moisturising madonnas as sweet almond oil, shea butter, coconut oil and cocoa butter.

Bodhi & Birch Siam Ginger Vitalising Bath & Shower Therapy – my boyfriend and I love showering with this brand’s shower series and the one that gets repurchased is Siam Ginger.  Adam loves it (my personal favourite is Jasmine Falls…I know, shocking!) and since he rarely gets to choose bathroom products (not because he lives in a dictatorship but simply because he has very few products in general!) I thought he would always have a say in our shower gels.  And thus Siam Ginger it is.  It’s a very fresh gingery scent…like most Bodhi & Birch scents, intricate and sensual and very pleasant to wake up to when Adam gets up before I do.  The gel itself is just the right consistency, not too runny or sticky and it gives a small enough amount of lather for easy massage.  It hasn’t once dried my skin out so there are times when I skip moisturising.  Another great way to use said shower gel is in the bath.  When added to a running bath it creates the perfect setting for a relaxing spa evening, with the scent spreading throughout the bathroom and the moisturising properties of the product leaving your skin soft and smooth.  I highly recommend the entire Bath & Shower Therapy series with beautiful scents to satisfy every nose.

So how did I do?  Well, according to this list I managed to use up 4 skincare products and 3 body care products.  Not surprisingly for those who know me, 0 in makeup!  My mascara definitely needs to be chucked out now since it’s gone past its 3 month use-by date…but apart from that I’m nowhere near finishing any of my makeup products!  So thank you Ru, for making sure the challenge ended this year! ;D

On a different note, I would like to apologise for the blog silence.  I started an internship at the end of January and it’s been quite hectic where I’ve not had much energy to write in my free time.  Perhaps that explains my activity on IG, easier and convenient!  Wishing you all a happy weekend green beauty bunnies!

Nic xx

You did so well! I’m not exactly speedy Gonzales when it comes to using up products, which is why I’m always amaized at how quickly some of the girls finished the challenges! Not a huge Aurelia fan but I did really like that night cream, I do prefer oils hence why I never purchased the full size. It might come as a shock but Jasmine falls is also my fav 😉 thank you for the mention xx

Aw thanks Tammy! And here I was thinking I was quite slow 😉 Yes, I too much prefer oils these days (plus I love droppers…something about it makes applying oils more fun!) so after I finished the night cream I don’t have any creams in my range. I loved the Aurelia night oil so that may be a purchase for me once I’ve finished up my current ones. Haha, what, you like Jasmine Falls too?! I would never have guessed! #bosomjasminebuddies Have a lovely weekend beautiful! Xx

Well done! You got through more than me haha…I did so bad! I got the Pai stuff too and I haven’t tried the toner yet but not rushing to open it now! I have been loving the Copaiba & Zinc serum though!

    • caprinic says:

Haha thanks Amber! It’s always a very satisfying feeling when you get through products 🙂 You might like the toner so don’t let me put you off hehe 😉 It just wasn’t anything special in my opinion. Like you though, I love their calming serum so they have excelled there! 😉 Have a lovely Saturday my bee-utiful friend! Xx

OOOOOO NIc, love the end sentence “So thank you Ru, for making sure the challenge ended this year! ;D” haha this challenge was so difficult to finish haha! I don’t remember the last makeup things i finished… We have almost finish our internship Nic.. I can’t make it anymore, but i stand up.. 3 weeks now.. next week is my last supervision, the next after is my final evaluation, and after is the LAST LAST week! I can’t believe. Nice post beauté, love to read your blog post but don’t apologize for your silence 🙂 xx

    • caprinic says:

Haha! Aw thank you Julie! Wow, you only have 3 weeks left?! Amazing! Tough it out, you can see the light at the end of the tunnel! In my case I don’t finish until June 5th so I still have a while to go but at the same time I can’t believe I’ve already managed 10 weeks!! Feels like I just got here haha. Thank you for understanding, I hope to keep posting once a month but if I don’t you know why! Sending you lots of love and wishing you a beautiful start to your week 🙂 bisous!

Ouch, make up products are hard to finish, they usually last long. I only use Lily Lolo concealer as a staple, and it’s only half left and turns a year in the coming months! lol

Didn’t know you could buy The Body Deli in EU, cool! I’ve been lately trying some different natural shampoos (John Masters/Rahua/Bentley Organics), but recent the fact that they cost a lot more and I also have to use more of the product to get completely clean hair that lasts more than three days before getting too oily and dirty 😛 I seriously have to wash 4 times for it to be clean!
I know you said you let the shampoo sit (I’ve tried that too ^^), but what’s your experience on how many pumps of product you have to use with this one? Is it “dryg” so to speak? 😀

    • caprinic says:

Hi! I pretty much used 4 pumps total of not less each time and the bottle lasted me about 3 months. I have short hair at the moment which means I shampoo nearly every day as well. But in my opinion 3 months is pretty good overall for natural shampoos, I don’t really expect them to last much longer. And each pump with the Body Deli one was not a lot so should last you a while 🙂
