#BeautyChallenge5 Accepted and Completed!

For those of you who follow me on Instagram you may have seen that I’ve been taking part in a challenge that the lovely Tammy of Rainbow Feet Blog started, #BeautyChallenge10. Now, after seeing Tammy’s 15 second video which started it all I felt that I was nowhere in the vicinity of owning as big a stash and finishing up 10 items before I could buy a new product seemed pretty insurmountable! So Tammy was kind enough to bend her rules and allow me 5 items which was much appreciated. And more in line mathematically with the amount of products I actually own. I finished the challenge not too long ago and have even gone up to 7 empties in total which I thought I’d quickly run through. Those of you who aren’t familiar with the challenge, the rules were simple: finish 5 (or 10) full-size or travel size (I think travel sizes were ok…but not samples!) products before buying anything new unless you had absolutely nothing to replace that product with (I had to buy a new shampoo in the middle cos I wasn’t going to go around with dirty hair for any stretch of time! I think most people were happy about that…).

No.1 SW Basics Toner: This is a toner I received in a beauty swap earlier in the year from none other than the brains behind #BeautyChallenge5, Tammy! Thanks to her I am now an avid toner user and even finished TWO other toners which I mention further down. I liked this one but despite it converting me to a spritzer-loving gal I wouldn’t say it was my favourite. And I don’t think I would purchase it. Sorry Tammy! Apparently this helps keep blemishes and the like at bay but since I don’t suffer from them so much (hey, I had my FAIR SHARE in my 20s so give me a break here!) I couldn’t really say if it made much difference in that area.

No.2 Rahua Voluminous Shampoo: I just recently did a post on this one here so will leave it at that!

No.3 Therapi Honey Skincare Orange Blossom Honey Gel Cleanser: That was a mouthful. I’ve reviewed this one previously here.

No.4 Leahlani Skincare Lavender Spritzer & Facial Toner: This was definitely one of my favourites and a product I would consider purchasing again in the bigger size. What did I like about it? It just really felt good on my skin and the general condition of my face when I spritzed this was…happiness and calm. Oh and it didn’t hurt that it smells good too. Great for those of you who love lavender. Another way I enjoyed using this which my skin appreciated was mixing it with May Lindstrom’s The Problem Solver. Like a blind date gone really well and now they’re happily married with kids. Nuff said.

No.5 Aurelia Probiotic Skincare Firm & Revitalise Dry Body Oil: you honestly didn’t think I would finish this challenge without mentioning one of my favourite brands, did ya? Didn’t think so. I absolutely loved this body oil and don’t even get me started on the gorgeous scent of this product…because you wouldn’t get anything intelligible out of me, more like aaaawwwgaahwwoooommmmmm. I warned you. It’s out of this world delicious. Slathering this on every morning on dripping wet skin was a lovely little routine I had going on…and the best part was catching delectably dainty whiffs of it throughout the day. This is definitely a repurchase for me.

No.6 BalanceMe Skin Bright Hydrating Face Mist with Hyaluronic Acid: my third toner daaown! I’m on a roll here spritzing away…lovely toner this but nothing that blew me away per se. I felt that I had to spritz this quite often to retain moisture and since this is what I’m after in a toner, extra hydration, I want something that does the job thoroughly on first spritz! Maybe I’m being naive thinking that such a toner exists? I hear Yüli’s Cocoon Elixir could be a very possible candidate…

No.7 Ilia Beauty Mascara in Nightfall: my first ever natural mascara and it was love at first application! My lashes and I have really enjoyed using this product and it was a sad day when I forced myself to chuck it despite having some product left (not too much I hope as I used it nearly everyday, review here). Even though I loved the mascara, I love and respect my lashes more and they deserve not to be subjected to a breeding ground for bacteria so you know what to do if you have a mascara older than 3 months! Chuck. It. Now.

Et voilà! Those were my empties for this challenge. My goal is to reach 10 by year’s end so if you want to see whether I succeed you’re welcome to follow me on Instagram. Many thanks again to Tammy for starting and pepping us gals to do this challenge, it’s been fun and I know one entity that’s been loving it- my student bank account! Since finishing I have gone ahead and bought a few things (post coming very soon on that!), products I actually needed mind, so I hope to continue in this fashion, only buying when I run out and I have nothing to replace it with instead of being led astray by the green devil on my shoulder.

Happy Sunday all!

Nic xx

Hi Caitie! The mist did hydrate but only after many spritzes and somewhere I’m hoping I will meet a toner that gets the job done without having to spray my face the whole day. If you get a chance to sample it then do so cos it could work for you! Thank you! Here’s to reaching 10 by the end of the year! Xx

Congrats again on finishing the challenge! For a very obscure reason, I missed your pic’n mix n°3 where you reviewed Therapi, so I actually read your review first before coming back to this post. I got a sample of Therapi’s cleanser yesterday while ordering another cleanser (travel size Yüli cleanser!) and now I’m really excited to try it.
I loved reading your experience and thanks to your post, I know now I don’t need the Balance Me toner, but Leahlani’s yes.
If you want hydration at first spritz, the first thing that comes to my mind, is Jurlique’s rose mist. It’s not the greenest of the bunch, but it does revive the skin. There’s also Rl. Linden rose Thousand Petals mist, which is amazing (and more natural). How are you liking The Jasmine Garden so far? xx

Thanks Liz! I think you’ll enjoy the Therapi honey gel cleanser and let me know what you think of Yüli’s! Really keen on trying their Cocoon Elixir. Your recommendations sound lovely but the rose has me a bit hesitant…it was actually Fiona Harlowe who alerted me to the fact that Rose can be an irritant for sensitive skinned people and when she was consulting me on my skin a few months ago she advised me to stay away from too much rose (I had quite a few products with rose in them at the time) so which of the ones you mentioned have the least amount of rose would you say? I’m loving the Jasmine Garden, the scent is intoxicating and so far my skin is liking it. Hydration wise I can’t say just yet…will keep you posted! And yes, you need the Leahlani Lavender spritzer! Xx

Thank you Amber! Yeah, the idea just came to me one day and it works really well! More benefits than simply adding water 🙂 xx

I’m honest, I never, never, never throw away Mascara before it’s completely empty and/or dried out. I never had any Problems with it, so I’ll be sticking with it, regardless of what others say. The one time I got an eye infection in my life, I would just skip Makeup completely, so nothing contamined here, too.
